How products are judged, who can take part, and what winners receive.

Evaluation criteria

Products are scored out of 100 points, across four main criteria.

100Total

Technical product quality: 35 points; A certificate of conformity from the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization.
No chemicals banned internationally or locally.
An accurate, clear label and safety instructions for the consumer.
How well the product performs against alternatives, e.g. cleaning power, stability or cosmetic effect.
Packaging quality: ease of use, protection against chemical leaks, and child-resistant containers.
Management quality: 25 points; A management system and organizational structure.
Clear, documented organizational processes.
Quality control: 30 points; A documented, clear quality control system.
Quality control carried out and on record.
A quality assurance system.
Industrial safety, occupational health, environment and sustainability: 10 points; Compliance with occupational safety, industrial safety, environmental and sustainability rules.
A qualified team for maintenance and industrial safety, and a clear policy for sustainability and the environment.

OriginThe product is made in the Kingdom, with at least 40% local content.
Legal licensingThe facility is officially licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and holds a licence from the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), especially for cosmetics.
Presence in the marketThe product has been on the Jordanian market, available to consumers, for at least a full year.

Outstanding Product awardBeside the category awards, the Outstanding Product award is given.

How applications are screened, products tested, and entrants kept anonymous.

Initial screening
Applications that do not meet the legal and technical conditions are filtered out: certificates and documents are reviewed and official licences verified.
Site visits and laboratory testing
Samples are checked in accredited laboratories. Random samples may be taken from the market and tested in the Royal Scientific Society's or the standards organization's laboratories, to confirm the actual ingredients match what is declared.
Coding and confidentiality
Company names are hidden from the judging committee during the first stages of evaluation.

Winning companies are honoured at an awards ceremony.
The shield and certificate of the Jordanian Award for the Best Product in the Chemical and Plastics Sector.
The winning companies and products are announced on the Jordan Engineers Association's website for a year.
The right to use the award's emblem on the winning product and on the factory's documents.
The chance to present the winning product during the awards ceremony.
The winner's products are shown at an industrial exhibition held alongside the ceremony.
